About
“My message is clear: the south is open for business. The creation of SCED LP is the first step to taking back economic sovereignty for our people.”
– Grand Chief Jerry Daniels, Chair of the Board
Southern Chiefs Economic Development LP (SCED LP) was formalized in the summer of 2022 to help enhance and strengthen the economic base of the 33 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations that are members of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization Inc. (SCO).
The eagle, or “migizi” in Anishinaabe and “wambdi” in Dakota, is considered the messenger to the Creator, or the messenger between human beings and the Creator. The eagle was chosen as the logo for SCED LP to reflect the importance of a strong economy as a messenger of hope and prosperity.
The philosophy behind SCED LP is that we are better together! We value all elements of good business and fair partnerships, while sharing and implementing our core values in all aspects of what we do. Together, we can help build stronger businesses, thus putting SCED LP in a better position to help improve the economic and social wellbeing of our Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and in fact, all Manitobans. In a short period of time, SCED has been involved in a number of industries, including real estate, oil and gas, supply chain management, trade employment services, project management, non-profit, hospitality, and security.
Our principles lie in the transformative power of unity where collective growth and shared prosperity build thriving communities. Guided by tradition, honesty, respect, and humility, we champion integrity and build equitable partnerships while nurturing vibrant businesses that enhance the lives of First Nation communities and all Manitobans. Our goal is clear: to advance reconciliatory, inclusive, sustainable, and fair economic progress that ensures that the days ahead are always a little bit better.
Better Together!
